According to Understood.org, 1 in 5 children have learning challenges.
Of that 20%, only 8.25% are identified in school and receive accommodations, as stated by the National Center for Learning Disabilities.
Millions of children go undiagnosed.
Statistics show that children who struggle to read rarely read on their own - in fact, according to the American Psychological Association, one in three teenagers has not read a book for pleasure in a year.
Why is this a problem?
It has long been documented that the potential consequences for non-readers are dangerous and wide-reaching. The Reading Foundation states that poor readers are more likely to experience academic, emotional, and social issues, such as low self-esteem, dropping out of school, or facing other disciplinary and criminal matters.
That’s where we come in:
KidsRead2Kids provides video-audiobooks of abridged classic novels, read chapter by chapter so that anyone, anywhere in the world, can listen and learn at their own pace. Along the way, listeners will learn new vocabulary words, boost their analytical thinking, improve their writing skills, and even increase their working memory.
Our books are read by high school volunteers of varying backgrounds, who serve as role models and sources of inspiration. According to the National Literacy Trust, having a positive reading role model can change a child’s relationship to literacy for life.
KidsRead2Kids offers engaging, multi-sensory activities through our collection of lesson plans, digital magazine, and five-set curriculum book club. Our goal is to inspire and empower children to embrace their differences and to see endless possibilities for their future.
Help us improve the self-esteem of struggling learners all over the world. Together, we can raise awareness and bring the joy - and confidence - back to learning.
