We know
1. Story Time!
Help improve your child’s listening comprehension by reading their favorite stories. Here at KidsRead2Kids, we also like to practice Active Listening.
Remember: if you’re active listening…
1) You hear the speaker
2) You remember what they’ve said
3) And, most importantly, you can say it in your own words
Have your child practice these skills along with books they love. Or, if you’re busy, set up a KidsRead2Kids video! Our favorite stories are from Classic Novels.
2. Have a Tea Party
Tea Parties are more than just for fun. They can give your children many important skills, such as creative thinking and imagination. Work together to plan a menu, invitations, and decorations. Encourage your child to think out-of-the-box.
Since we are all social distancing, have your kids invite their favorite stuffed animals. We may have to be a little creative, but that’s part of the fun!
3. Play a Game
Games are a great way both to spend the day and to work your brain. Try a board game to work your strategic thinking, a card game to test memory, or even incorporate new vocabulary. The possibilities are endless!
Hint: Try using our new vocab sheets! On our Abridged Classics page, you’ll find our lesson plans along to two of our favorite books, Peter Pan and Anne of Green Gables. Inside, you’ll find vocab set to each chapter, along with crossword puzzles, word searches, and more!
4. Try Your Hand at Charades!
A game of Pictionary or Charades is the perfect thing to brighten your day. Bring in the whole family for some silly, lighthearted fun. Along with sharing a few laughs, your kids will also learn valuable skills in expression and presentation.
Learning how to express yourself, is extremely important—both in school and in life. So, why not start now? Whether through movement in Charades or art in Pictionary, your children are sure to come out with more confidence in themselves.
Bonus: for shyer kids, starting with a familiar audience can make a HUGE difference!
5. Solve a Challenging Puzzle
It’s time to take out that puzzle you’ve been storing! This activity is extremely family-oriented and cannot be done without concentration and perseverance.
Work together to solve even the most challenging ones—the victory will be worth it! It’s important for any child to learn how to work hard and see results. This team effort will help prepare them for future problems.
